Press Release.......

Council’s aims to draw communities into creative programme

27/09/12

The Arts Development team at Aberdeen City Council will launch 'Creative Communities', a new arts programme aimed at residents in the city's regeneration areas, from 1pm to 3pm, on Saturday 29 September outside Tillydrone Shopping Centre, Hayton Road.
Adults and children can come and pick up a Creative Communities programme, find out how they can get involved in art projects, take part in a free pop-up art workshop and receive a free ice cream [one per person for the first 100 people].
The pop-up workshop acts as an introduction to the forthcoming art project 'Up-cycle Tillydrone' which has opportunities for all ages to get involved in turning unwanted items into something useful and beautiful.
Throughout the next six months there will be art projects including sculpture, painting, photography, haunted heritage and playing with art, in Northfield, Cummings Park, Torry, Woodside, Middlefield and Seaton.

Margaret Stewart, community art officer, Arts Development, at Aberdeen City Council said: "We are looking to grow the audience for arts and culture in the city's regeneration areas; we are using the ice cream van as a fun and informal visual and audio tool to encourage people to come and find out about getting creative. "
Arts Development is part of Aberdeen City Council's Education, Culture and Sport Service and is led by professional practitioners. Its Outreach and Older Peoples programmes are linked together to enable individuals, groups and communities of all ages to learn skills that create life-long changes.
